Women in business are over-committed and our lives are out of control–we need to learn that we don’t have to be chained to our businesses, that we can take control of them. Recently, Art Unlimited was blessed with the opportunity to meet with Sue Hawks to hear her guidance and encouragement on this very topic! Check out her advice for women business owners with us!
In Sue Hawkes’ new book, Chasing Perfection, she outlines how to “use actionable practices to conquer self-doubt while maximizing your success,” so that you can smash down the barriers keeping you from your full leadership potential.
We need to get some work done and this blog is for you. You need to know that you are making a difference inside and outside your business and are able to take care of yourself. Being certain of yourself is essential.
Is this you?
- You put yourself last
- You are moving forward amidst overwhelming circumstances
- You find yourself trying to be perfect
- You are looking for purpose
- You need to learn how to say no without guilt
- Nothing you do seems “good enough”
- You battle self-doubt
- You want to pave the way and make a difference in all you do
- You’re trying to work through the tough stuff
- You’re ready to become Unf**kwithable
Your story is unique and you need to tell it to the world. You need to transform your life: it’s time. Don’t fret when you see countless others around you struggling against life’s changing circumstances. Don’t think you can’t do it. The difference is that you are working on changing your story and you won’t allow your circumstances to define who you are.
You can be Unf**kwithable: at peace and in touch with yourself, where nothing anyone says or does bothers you, and no negativity or drama can touch you. It means being at the pinnacle of whatever you do, being the ultimate leader you can be. This IS it: you’re at the top of your game, the desired space to be; you’re fulfilled and you’re making a great big dent in this world!
Let’s Shatter Three Illusions Today:
- You are a superhero
- Balance is possible
- Being a businesswoman is fair
Do you feel vulnerable as a leader? Do you feel vulnerable as a business owner? Imposter Syndrome occurs when people do not internalize their successes and are afraid of being exposed as a fraud. As your success rises, your self-doubt will rise with it; you will continue to raise the bar and you need to know how to manage this.
Renee Brown states:
“Our world is screaming for honesty and people sharing their stories. Be courageous and be willing to dare to share who you really are. Being vulnerable isn’t easy, we get that, but to be a real leader you need to be willing, to be honest with yourself and others.”
Being a superhero isn’t going to be the solution to being the strongest female leader you can be. What do you produce when you work through a lens of being a superhero? Is it any good, really? You need to step away from being perfect and take off the mask of perfection.
Balance is not truly possible. We are women and we have to do everything, sometimes all at once. We as women are over-committed. I ask you, what is the cost of saying “Yes”? The cost of saying “Yes” is the “No” that will then have to be said to something else. You are human and only have 24 hours a day. Be real with yourself–you can’t have it all at the same time!
You need to be willing to let go and be honest; don’t be afraid to delegate and elevate your life. Stop doing everything, start understanding what you are great at, what you like, what you are good at, what you are ok with, and then what you really dislike. Then start delegating the items that you are “Ok” at and what you really “Dislike.” You will be happier and more effective, and the people around you will be much happier and more effective as well!
You can say Yes to everything, just not at the same time!
Being a Businesswoman is Fair:
We can’t be angry about the difference in the lines between men and women. We just need to be aware of them and understand that we can conquer the challenges. We need to be unshakable and face the challenges head-on. Opportunities take work–a lot of work! We have a long way to go as women, so we need to band together and make something positive occur.
We need to champion each other and lift each other up. Your road will have peaks and valleys, but having people who will champion your journey through life is critical. You, in turn, can do the same for them. Don’t be afraid to ask people you look up to to be your mentor.
“The network that you have in your life needs to be let in, you need to build a “We.” You can’t achieve perfection, but you can achieve excellence.” – Vince Lombardi
Our lives are the sum of what we practice. True masters study their craft and don’t give up. The discipline that it takes to be a master requires them to have a routine and to use every possible minute to become their greatest. Excellence requires discipline! You can’t control the results, you can only control what you do.
Success is looking at who you are, the game changer of your future! It takes courage, discipline, and practice. You need to be human and you need to set clear expectations for yourself.
