What is SEO?

“SEO” is an acronym for Search Engine Optimizer or Search Engine Optimization. This is a function that allows an individual to optimize his or her web page to get the highest rankings in search engines.”

SEO is an investment. It’s something that don’t have to pay for each time someone views or clicks on your link like with Pay Per Click (PPC).  It also plays an important role in the purchaser’s buying cycle.  It’s like a magnet online, attracting users to your website through keywords and quality content.  Best of all, it’s about being where your customers are. Trust me, they are online and searching!

What are some key SEO strategies that you can use?

 Create Quality Content

  • It has been proven that 75% of people don’t go beyond the first page in Google.  So, now more than ever, we need to analyze what we are targeting with our marketing.

  • Google has said that 16 percent of the searches that they see on a daily basis they haven’t seen before.  How is that?  Well look at this search term I just used: “All Organic Honey Lemon Drops”. Google didn’t have any pre-defined search results. It’s just not a traditional keyword.  But through the content on the pages, I found some awesome results.  My favorite was a link to a blog!  You can see that this blog connects with Google Authorship, they have quality content, they are promoting a great book, and they are providing social media sharing.

Build Links – It’s like cross promotion through the internet!

  • Link building can start with connecting with your local supporting businesses within your area.

  • Create free tools – People love to link to free tools that are helpful

  • Create an inforgraphic that can be shared

  • Create a presentation or slideshow

  • Send out a joint press release when your news is also another companies news!

  • Install a social sharing widget on your website

  • PRWeb Articles – Pushing targeted articles through PRWeb allows you to tap into a national and global audience.  You need to pitch content that is newsworthy.  Something that would make a newspaper is worthy of making a PR article!

  • Volunteer to be a case study for a company that you love!

Simplify via Responsive Design – Engaging the busy user:

Responsive design is an incredibly powerful SEO tool that can significantly increase visits. Responsive design means a site can be viewed on multiple devices with similar quality.  For example, a site will be as effective on a PC as a smartphone. Within the example below the website that converted to a responsive platform saw an increase of traffic by 400% in a month.

  • 91% of US citizens have their mobile device within reach 24/7. And they are checking their phones an average of 150x a day!

  • Mobile web browsing is projected to take over desktop Internet usage by 2015…or sooner.

  • 90% of people use multiple screens to access the web.

  • 90% of smartphone searches results in a purchase or a visit to a business.

  • 61% of visitors will return to Google to find a site that IS easily readable.

Know your target market!

Look at the persona that you have the highest conversion with and engage them. Create a culture of content and a brand that connects with their interests.

  • What Are Buyer Personas? Buyer personas are fictional representations of your ideal customers. They are based on real data about customer demographics and online behavior, along with educated speculation about their personal histories, motivations, and concerns.

  • How Are Buyer Personas Created? Buyer personas are created through research, surveys, and interviews of your target audience. That includes a mix of customers – both “good” and “bad” — prospects, and those outside of your contact database who might align with your target audience. You’ll collect data that is both qualitative and quantitative to paint a picture of who your ideal customer is, what they value, and how your solution fits into their daily lives.

One thing to note is that SEO is not the icing on the cake it’s an ingredient like flour; without it, you will not get the results you want.  Search Engine Optimization truly needs to be mixed in to make it work!
