What You Need To Know About Web Design vs. Development

What You Need To Know About Web Design vs. Development

Life is crazy; especially when you are a business owner. There isn’t always time to do everything and fill all the roles a thriving business needs. Sometimes projects need to be delegated to someone else so they can be done in the best way possible. Art Unlimited understands this and is devoted to helping businesses stand out from their competitors.

Prioritizing Your Website

One of the things companies struggle to have time for is their website. This can cause the website to become old and outdated. By the time a website becomes a big enough priority, some big changes need to be made to it. Those big changes cost money, so being smart and cost-conscious throughout the process is imperative. Website design and development are two very important things to look into. There is a lot which goes into them, but it comes down to functionality and user experience.

What Does a Web Developer Do?

Functionality is what a web developer focuses on. They make sure coding on the front end and back end are in order. Some projects may only need front end work, but more complex projects need back end coding as well. Responsibilities of a web developer involve using specific types of code to build websites and create content for them. Once a website is built, a web developer will run tests on it. Sometimes a web developer will have to transform a variety of different elements to compatible web formats. In short, web developers make sure each page of a website does what it’s supposed to do when someone visits it. This includes clicking on specific elements coded within each of those pages. They don’t want a user to get an error message instead of the page and the content they were trying to get to. A 404 error message is never a good thing!

What Does a Web Designer Do?

The main goal of a web designer is for the visitor to have the best user experience possible. This includes the appearance of the website as well as how easy it is for someone to navigate through. They want the website to look pleasing to the eye. They also want to make the website experience smooth to encourage a visitor to keep going and find what they are searching for. This also makes the user more likely to visit the website again at a future date. If the experience is painless, the visitor will spend more time on the website. If a website takes a long time to load, people will leave sooner and not convert as often. This will have a negative impact on your business over time.

Similarities

While there is overlap between these elements, both are important for a website to be successful. A web developer and a web designer both have knowledge about building a great website. They each have the end goal of making the website visitor happy; they just go about it in different ways.

Why Both Are Important

Knowing the skill set of what each person does for a website is the first step to making a decision on who to hire. Having a website which does exactly what it is supposed to do but is not easy to navigate will lead to fewer conversions. Having a website which is easy to navigate but does not always lead you to the right page will also affect conversions. Tracking website traffic does not mean much if the visitors do not convert by calling you or filling out the contact form. These actions lead to sales. Sales are extremely important for a business to thrive, not just survive.

At the end of the day, you need both a web designer and a web developer. This allows you to be sure the people who visit your website will experience the best functionality and user experience possible. Only by having both of these features will a website be the best it can be for both the user and your business. Hiring a digital marketing agency can help solve your website troubles and bring the expertise needed.
