How We Became Part Of The Top 100 Roofing Contractors

Search engine optimization plays a critical role in getting visitors to come to your website. Without it, you may not get the traction you’re hoping for. So why then does it take so long to see results from your SEO work? Here are 6 of the reasons why SEO results take time.

1. Search Engine Crawling

It’s hard to know exactly when a search engine is going to read a website, but it typically happens once a month, though it’s different for each site. It could take days, or even many months, to index new content and have it appear in the search results. New content does get indexed eventually, but when it does is dependent on when Google crawls your site and where the new content is in the list of pages you have. Google only has a specific amount of time it dedicates to each site, which is called a crawl budget.

2. E-A-T

Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness. This is what Google looks at to determine the quality of a page. First it verifies what your expertise on the subject you’re covering is. It checks to see if you’re an expert with any of the necessary credentials regarding the subject. Then, it checks to see what your authority on the subject is. If your word means something to others in the field, Google will likely recognize it. Finally, it determines how trustworthy your site and you are. If you, your content, and your page don’t meet these requirements, Google will determine your page doesn’t have the quality it’s looking for. This is why it’s important to prove E-A-T.

3. Observation and Data Collection

Due to the competitive nature of SEO, it can be difficult to break into a market and catch up with competitors. E-A-T needs to be proved, as well as determining which keywords work and which ones don’t. Even if you aren’t seeing results right away, you have to stick with it. Much like the story of the hare and the tortoise, slow and steady wins the SEO race.

4. Ranking Parameters

Search engines are constantly tweaking the parameters of how a page ranks. These parameters can even change weekly. Plus with technology changing so frequently, it’s a constant chase to keep up. One of the technological hurdles is voice searches. People are using voice searches, like through Amazon’s Alexa, and SEOs are trying to work around and figure out how to capitalize on this new area as well.

5. Developing Content

Content is king. If you take the time to develop the best, most unique content you can, you’ll rank higher than just by throwing something together haphazardly. What this means is staying away from content search engines will identify as duplicate content. The search engines will avoid giving you content which is essentially the same from multiple sources. No one wants to search for something, read an article, and then look for a second opinion only to find it’s the exact same as what you just read. Your content needs to provide something other websites aren’t giving the reader.

Content isn’t set in stone either. Due to SEO taking as long as it does, you can always make changes and updates to the content while you’re trying to have it gain traction. This ensures it stays up to date and informative when it does finally rank. Overall, the better your content is, the better results you’ll see from your SEO work.

6. Not An Exact Science

SEO work is normally an educated guess. No two geographical locations are going to be the same and what works best for one may not work for another. Every area is going to have its own difficulties and a different mountain which needs to be climbed. Search engines will look for similar things on each site, but also keep an eye out for those unique ones. This is why having unique content is as important as it is.

Ultimately, as our SEO Manager Tyler says, “There’s no real answer to how long SEO will take. There really is no way to accurately predict how long it will be as there are too many variables. Really, it will take as long as it needs to.”

This can make it seem like tedious work, but Tyler also says, “I like doing SEO because it’s always changing. What I did last year is different from what I’m doing now.” It’s a constant challenge and each day is going to be unique. When you finally are able to get something to rank and see results, it’s a huge win!
