Online Marketing Trends

This is the generation the sees the world through the screen.  So I want to share with you some key tips on how to engage users with your story / brand through the screen.  It’s not something to be afraid of, but something to embrace and embody into your daily life.

Today Americans view the real world and online world as one.

So, from a marketing perspective, how do we market to this unique growing population of Americans who share and chart their life through an online world?  Here are 5 things we look at when charting the typical American decision making process.

  • Awareness

  • Social discovery

  • Consideration of purchase

  • Experience

  • Shared experience

Now we map this process with supporting online marketing tools:

  • Awareness – SEO / Google Local

  • Social discovery – Social Media

  • Consideration of purchase – Blogging / Inbound & E-mail

  • Experience – Inbound & E-mail / Tracking via Analytics

  • Shared experience – Social Media / Google Local

I recently presented on marketing to the connected American and have included my presentation via slideshare below.  There are 6 key areas businesses need to target within their online marketing strategies that will engage the connected American through their buying decision.

  1. Search Engine Optimization

  2. Google Analytics

  3. Blogging

  4. Social Media

  5. Google Local

  6. Inbound

You can easily get caught up in creating the perfect marketing campaign, but it is ok to take it slow. Work on one key area at a time and fine tune it with your marketing tools. In the end the key takeaway is: Be human.   Figure out how you can become a breathing entity within the home, like Netflix. Become the go-to site for your customers.
