Claim Your Google Business Listing With Art Unlimited

Art Unlimited Helps Businesses Claim their Google My Business Listing What is a Google My Business listing?

When you type your business’s name into Google, sometimes there’s a side box that pops up. It has your business name, address, phone number, pictures, a map, and a link to your business website. This is your Google My Business listing.

The act of claiming it is what makes that box post up in a search. If your business is brand new, you may first have to create that listing. Luckily, it’s super easy, and free! Here’s how to get that listing up and running like a pro.

Make a Google Account:

You can do this simply by making a Gmail account. Again, also super easy. Gmail = Google-Mail. From there, you can follow these steps to create an account for free!

Once you’ve created your Google account, you need to go to and sign in to your account.

Click the blue plus (+)  icon on the bottom right of the screen.

Google will suggest a match to your business from information they already have. Sometimes this is correct, sometimes it’s not. If the information matches your business, check the box, if not, click “This doesn’t match,” and go through the steps to add what kind of business you are, what your phone number is, and where your website can be found.

If the match it finds is your correct business listing, a map will come up, and it will ask you to verify the location of the pin on the map. If the pin is in the wrong place, drag it to the correct place. Once the pin is in the correct location, click “Next.”

It will ask you what kind of business you are. Type it in, find the best match, and click “Next.” It will now ask you to put in your phone number and website.

Verifying the Listing

At any point in this process, you may get a screen that says “Someone else has already verified this listing.”

If this is the case, and you are the owner of the business, click “Request Access” and follow the steps to claim your business.

If your listing hasn’t been claimed, it will ask you to verify your connection to this business.

At this point, it will ask you how you want your location verified. Google needs to make sure

  1. This business is actually where you say it is located
  2. This business is called what you say it’s called

The most common form of verification is by postcard. Google will mail you a postcard with a PIN on it. The postcard looks like this, and often gets discarded as junk. The postcard usually arrives in about 5-10 business days. Don’t worry if you accidentally discard it: you can request up to 4 postcards.

Putting on the Polish

While you’re waiting for the postcard to come, you can go into the menu options on the left side and optimize your listing. That way, once you get your verification code, your listing will be all ready to go! Check to make sure the information is correct in the info menu. Add photos in the photos menu.

Having relevant, recently updated content in your business listing will help you gain trust with potential customers, and Google will be happier with you if your business listing has the information people are searching for.

Final Steps

Once you have your postcard, log back into your Google My Business account. It will display the following message:

Click “Enter Verification Code.”

Once you enter the verification code, you will have menu option to add posts and insights.

Adding posts lets you put ads onto the listing, and insights tell you how many people are engaging with your listing.

If you want Google (and future customers) to find your business, you need to play with Google’s tools. The Google My Business listing is one of their easiest tools to use. Your Google My Business listing, if claimed, is the first thing people will see when they use Google to find your business. By claiming this listing and adding correct information, you’ll be increasing the amount of customers that will see your business and website.
